Amazon Luna’s Massive Pivot: What You Need to Know
Amazon has just sent shockwaves through the cloud gaming community. In a surprise update effective April 10, 2026, Amazon Luna is officially transitioning away from being a digital storefront and moving toward a strictly subscription-based model.
If you’ve been using Luna to buy individual games or as a hub for your Ubisoft+ or Jackbox subscriptions, the landscape has just changed permanently. Here is the breakdown of the timeline and what it means for your digital library.
The Sunset Timeline
- April 10, 2026: Amazon has officially disabled the "game stores," individual game purchases, and the ability to sign up for third-party subscriptions through the platform.
- June 10, 2026: This is the final cutoff. Any games you currently own or any third-party subscription benefits you currently access will no longer be available via the Luna cloud.
- September 8, 2026: Your game save data will remain available for download via the settings section until this date. After this, it's gone for good.
Note: While you lose cloud access on Luna, you still "own" the games on their native platforms (like Ubisoft Connect, GOG, or the EA App). You just won't be able to stream them through Amazon anymore.
A Shift to "Premium"
Amazon is streamlining the service into two main tiers: Luna Standard (included with Prime) and Luna Premium. To ease the transition, they are offering a free Luna Premium subscription to existing community members.
