Every year on March 10th, Nintendo fans celebrate "MAR10 Day" (since the date looks like Mario's name). This year, the company has announced several exciting updates, sales, and events to celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary.

Whether you grew up playing the original Nintendo or you are buying games for your kids on the new Switch 2, there is plenty to be excited about. Here is a straightforward guide to everything happening for Mario Day 2026.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is Almost Here

The final trailer just dropped for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which arrives in theaters on April 1st, 2026. The sequel to the 2023 animated hit brings back Chris Pratt as Mario and Jack Black as Bowser, but it also adds some great new voices to the cast. Donald Glover will be playing Yoshi, Brie Larson is voicing Princess Rosalina, and Benny Safdie is playing Bowser Jr..

If you plan on visiting a Universal Studios theme park in Hollywood or Orlando between March 10 and April 13, they are hosting special limited-time events. You can meet Yoshi in person and try out movie-themed treats like the blueberry cheesecake "Rosalina Cupcake" or Galaxy Popcorn made with edible glitter.

Discounts on Popular Switch Games

If you've been waiting for a good time to buy a new game, Nintendo is running a large sale on the eShop and at major retailers through March 15th.

Several excellent, family-friendly games like Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury are marked down to around $40. They are even offering a rare 22% discount on a brand-new Switch 2 game: Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV, bringing it down to $61.98.

Pro Tip: The best bargain of the sale is Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. It is currently 90% off, making it just $5.99.

Classic Retro Games Added to Switch Online

For those feeling nostalgic, Nintendo is adding three classic games to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. Starting March 10th, subscribers can play the puzzle-platformer Mario vs. Donkey Kong originally released on the Game Boy Advance. Nintendo is also bringing back two rare games from its 1995 Virtual Boy console: Mario's Tennis and Mario Clash.

A Sneak Peek at a New Mario Kart Mode

If you or your family play Mario Kart World, a new update might be coming soon. Nintendo recently posted screenshots online to promote an upcoming tournament. Fans quickly noticed a new "Bob-omb" icon sitting in the game's Battle Mode menu. While Nintendo hasn't officially announced it yet, this strongly suggests a new explosive Battle Mode is on the way.

Celebrate Offline With LEGO

Finally, if you want a screen-free way to celebrate, there are some fantastic Super Mario LEGO sets available right now. For kids, there is an interactive LEGO Mario set that lets them build their own physical Mario stage to play with.
